Camino Day 38: Palas de Rei to Ribadiso da Baixo

Today: Sick, no breakfast, an eleventh hour rainstorm. All the makings of a bad day and grumpy me, and for a while, it was, I was-- til I focused on deliberately making joy.

First, we found local cherries at a small fruit stand. Cherries remind me of summer road trips as a kid, spitting pits out the window on winding mountain roads. So we bought cherries and wandered down the path slowly, arcing cherry pits into the trees.

We shared a hug in the middle of the path. Deliberately, because hugs are great and grumpy is good for no one.

We stopped for ice cream just 2 miles from the end of our 16 mile day, and it immediately started to squall, so we ate ice cream in the pouring rain, and laughed and joked about what the rain gods were thinking and saying in the clouds.

Sometimes, joy is a deliberate choice.
